Darkest Dungeon 2 Bounty Hunter Guide

Updated Date :

The Bounty Hunter in Darkest Dungeon 2 is arguably the most overpowered character in the game. Being a unique hero, he is a DPS and Support character with various mastered skills. As you add this hero to the party, he can make a fine addition to your expeditions. While unlocking him is easier, hiring and using him can be tricky. Don’t worry; check out our guide on how to get and hire Bounty Hunter in DD2.

How to Unlock & Get Bounty Hunter in Darkest Dungeon 2

Like other heroes, you can unlock and get the Bounty Hunter in Darkest Dungeon 2 at The Altar of Hope. It costs you 5 Candles of Hope to unlock this unique hero. You can start a new run to head down to the Living City section via The Altar of Hope. Over there, you will find the Bounty Hunter at the end of the Heroes list. Note that you can only unlock this character in a standard run rather than a tutorial in DD2.

But how do you hire and use the Bounty Hunter in your party? Here’s where this unique hero differs from other heroes in Darkest Dungeon 2. You cannot hire and use the Bounty Hunter at the Crossroads. Instead, hiring him requires some further steps and additional Candles of Hope.

How to Use & Hire Bounty Hunter in Darkest Dungeon 2

Once you have unlocked the Bounty Hunter, you can hire him only when his poster is shown at the Inn. The Bounty Hunter cannot be hired at the Inn before the Mountain unless your ongoing confession is Denial. In that case, you can hire him if he appears at the last Inn. Hiring the Bounty Hunter will cost you 4 Candles of Hope, with him replacing the hero of your choice in the party.

But if you have only one hero in the party, the Bounty Hunter will accompany him throughout the expedition. After the expedition, the Bounty Hero will be replaced by the original hero in your party as you reach your next Inn. So, to hire him again, you must find his poster at the Inn and spend four Candles of Hope.

All Bounty Hunter Skills

One of the best perks of hiring this hero is the fully mastered skills that are unlocked at The Living City. As a unique hero in DD2, Bounty Hunter has no hero paths, cannot upgrade stats, or get Signature Items. Rather than that, this hero gains new skills and Hero trinkets as you progress. So, here are the unlocked pre-mastered skills of Bounty Hunter in Darkest Dungeon 2:

  • Collect Bounty
  • Marked for Death
  • Come Hither
  • Caltrops
  • Flashbang

If you want to unlock his other skills, you can unlock them in exchange for the Candles of Hope at The Altar of Hope. Likewise to the above skills, you can permanently unlock more skills after spending the required candles. So, here’s every Bounty Hunter skill you can unlock along with the required Candles of Hope in order:

  1. Staredown
    • Requires: 8 Candles of Hope
  2. Hurlbat
    • Requires: 14 Candles of Hope
  3. No Escape
    • Requires: 17 Candles of Hope
  4. Finish Him
    • Requires: 27 Candles of Hope
  5. Uppercut
    • Requires: 32 Candles of Hope
  6. Bodyguard
    • Requires: 45 Candles of Hope

In addition to the above skills, the Bounty Hunter has a passive ability known as the Professional. This ability allows the Bounty Hunter a 50% chance to reapply the Combo Token Regen. But for that, you must use an ability that consumes the combo token.
