With new graphics, mechanics, and even more psychological horrors of adventuring, Darkest Dungeon 2 gives you the ability to equip pets. Each of these pets has unique abilities and buffs that would help your heroes in the party going forward. Now that the game has been released in full access, here’s a guide on how to equip a pet.
How to Equip a Pet in Darkest Dungeon 2
To equip a pet in Darkest Dungeon 2, you will need Candles Of Hope. Throughout your journey, you can collect these Candles by successfully completing a run, defeating enemies, etc.
- Once you have enough Candles Of Hope in your inventory, head towards the Altar Of Hope.
- At the Altar Of Hope, select the Intrepid Coast Section and you will see the ”Companionship” option.
- Use your Candles Of Hope as the currency to unlock Companionship.
- Once you unlock Companionship, Pets can then be purchased from the Provisioner at the Inn for one relic each.
- You can then equip your pet at the Wainwright Screen at the Inn.
Candles Required to Unlock Each Pet
Darkest Dungeon 2 has a total of 10 different types of pets for you to choose from. Here’s how many Candles it requires to unlock each of them.
- Orphan Wolf Cub
– 05 Candles - Pygmy Pliskin
– 10 Candles - Unnatural Owlet
– 15 Candles - Reanimated Rabbit
– 25 Candles - Mucilaginous Slime
– 35 Candles - Shrieker Chick
– 45 Candles - Larval Carrion Eater
– 60 Candles - Hatchling Crocodilian

Also, it’s worth noting that you can only equip one pet at a time on the stagecoach. The Provisioner at first will only have three of the pets that you unlock. Pets and trinkets work differently in Darkest Dungeon 2 i.e. you won’t be rewarded with a newly unlocked pet in your inventory every time you complete a run.
That is everything on how you can equip pets in Darkest Dungeon 2. Along with pets, here is our guide on how to upgrade your characters and their skills for combat.
