One of the most annoying bugs in Baldur’s Gate 3 is the character stuck in dialogue error and players need a fix. Without getting too much into the spoilers, in Druid’s Grove, there is a section where Astarion will get stuck in a cutscene and won’t take any action. This is just a popular instance of this bug. Players have had this problem with Shadowheart and other characters in different areas as well. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to get them out of it.
Here is how to get a party member out of cutscene and fix the stuck companion in dialogue in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Fix when BG3 Character is Stuck in Dialogue
There are many ways to fix the companion stuck in a dialogue bug, but the best way seems to be killing and reviving them.
- Select another character by clicking on their card on the left side of the screen.
- Now, cast a spell or attack the character that is stuck while they are in a conversation & kill them.
- Use the same character or anyone else in the party who has a Scroll of Revivify to bring the now dead party member back to life.
- Once your companion revives you should be able to take long or short rests again.
There is a chance that this method might not work for you. If it doesn’t then there are still many other things you can try.
Use Shove Action
One of the Bonus actions in the game is Shove. You basically use it to push a target away. Use Shove on the Stuck character. The stronger the party member’s strength is, the faster you can move the Companion stuck in dialogue away. Thanks to u/etonbears on Reddit for sharing this fix. You can check out their solution here.
Save and Reload
Saving and reloading the game might help you remove the character from the important dialogue. Depending on your latest save or Autosave you may have to progress a lot until getting back to this portion of the game. Although this method isn’t exactly recommended as many times it doesn’t do anything.
With that, you should be able to fix the stuck character in dialogue in Baldur’s Gate 3 and bring them out of the cutscene. For more bug fixes you should also check out how to solve the camera stuck in top-down view. And for help on other topics check out our Baldur’s Gate 3 guides.
