The rocks in the farm render the land useless for farming. So it is pretty important to get rid of them. In the initial tutorials, Cres will teach you how to farm. After completing this tutorial, she will indicate that you need a Hammer to break the rocks and get more space to farm. However, the base level Hammer cannot be used to break the big rocks. You will have to upgrade the hammer.
Upgrading the hammer takes a while in this game. You will have to progress all the way up to Quest 3C by beating the Winter Dungeon. Here, you will unlock Shirii, the Earth Faerie. You can check his orders in the Faerie Book at your house. By completing these orders, you can get several rewards and buffs to make farming easier. Upgrades like the ability to plow large areas of fields at once, water, sow, and harvest all the plants instantly will be unlocked. In the Earth Fraerie’s orders, you will get to upgrade your hammer.
