Junkrat is a DPS hero who uses grenades, concussion mines, steel traps, and exploding tires to get kills. The ultimate can get you multi-kills if you time it correctly but your efforts can be countered by certain heroes easily. If you are playing as Junkrat or have one in the opposing team, here are the counters in Overwatch 2 you should know about.
How to Counter Junkrat in Overwatch 2?
These are the heroes that can take down Junkrat in OW2:
- Pharah – Best Counter
- Widowmaker – Best Counter
- Hanzo
- Genji
- Reaper
- Cassidy
- Kiriko
Junkrat succeeds when he is not too far from enemies but can possibly fail if he’s too close. That’s when enemies playing as Reaper and Cassidy can easily take him down. Plus, Reaper has a teleportation ability which can bring him away from the area that Junkrat damages. If you are playing as Junkrat and want to evade an enemy, you can place a Concussion Mine near you and detonate it while you are on top of it, to get boosted up in the air and reach rooftops.
Junkrat requires a Tank player to fully use his potential, mainly because he doesn’t have much speed, cannot wall climb, and has no teleportation skills. Due to this, a good Pharah player can instantly kill Junkrat with her projectiles. Junkrat’s bombs can be useless if Pharah keeps flying throughout the match.
Widowmaker is a sniper hero and can land a headshot on Junkrat from a distance without him knowing what just happened. If Widowmaker is somehow on ground level, Junkrat can send a tire to explode right next to her to get the kill. But otherwise, Junkrat fails at dealing with this long-ranged hero. The same goes for Hanzo.
Genji is super fast and Junkrat can have difficulty catching up to him. He can dash up close and inflict damage on Junkrat and it will happen quickly before you can unleash your traps or mines to gain distance.
Apart from these heroes, others who have the teleportation ability or quick movement (like Kiriko) may also prove to be good counters for Junkrat. Just be aware that he has bombs that explode upon his death as well.
