Essence is one of the core combat resources in The Forge on Roblox. Unlike ore or crafting materials that come from mining, essence is earned entirely through enemy kills. Every monster in the game has a chance to drop essence, and the danger of the enemy determines the tier of essence it drops. Essence plays a major role in both gear upgrades and gold farming, and here’s how you can get it.
What is Essence used for in The Forge?
Essence has two main roles:
- Enhancing weapons and armor, helping you increase damage, defense, and overall efficiency in combat.
- Selling for gold, which helps you buy tools, equipment, etc.
Because enhancement costs increase with every upgrade, players must decide carefully whether to spend essence on gear or sell it for currency.
All Essence Types in The Forge

How to Get Tiny & Small Essence
Tiny and Small Essence are early-game drops.
You obtain them by:
- Defeating enemies near the starting area
- Clearing beginner caves and training zones
- Completing early combat quests
These are best used for:
- Your first few weapon upgrades
- Selling for starter gold to buy tools and potions

How to Get Medium & Large Essence
Medium and Large Essence are mid-game drops.
They drop from:
- Enemies with higher health and armor
- Hostile mobs found in deeper exploration areas
- Regions that unlock after starter progression
These tiers are ideal for:
- Transitioning into stronger weapons
- Balancing upgrades with gold income
How to Get Greater Essence
Greater Essence appears once you enter danger-heavy zones.
It drops from:
- Elite enemies
- Armored mobs
- High-damage monsters
This essence is mainly used for:
- High-tier weapon enhancement
- Advanced armor upgrades
- Selling for a strong gold return

How to Get Epic Essence
Epic Essence is a late-game combat drop.
You can obtain it from:
- Very powerful elite enemies
- High-risk zones designed for advanced players
- Enemies that require upgraded weapons and survival gear
Epic Essence is best used for end-game weapon upgrades and major gold farming sessions.
How to Get Superior Essence

Superior Essence is the rarest essence in the game.
It drops from:
- Extremely powerful enemies such as the Elite Rogue Skeleton
- Rare elite encounters
- Deep late-game combat zones
- This essence should only be used for:
- Final-tier weapon and armor upgrades
- Emergency high-value gold conversion
When you have what you require, head to the Enhancer (available in both Worlds) and enhance your gear by talking to the NPC. Choose the “Enhance Equipment” dialogue option and you’re ready to go.
Essence controls how fast you grow in The Forge. If you manage your essence properly, you can drastically reduce grind time, survive stronger zones earlier, and build powerful late-game equipment without wasting resources.
