Should You Let Astarion Ascend In Baldur’s Gate 3? Complete Or Stop The Ritual

Should You Let Astarion Ascend In Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3)?

After taking down Cazador Szarr, Astarion will have the option to become a Vampire Ascendant in Baldur’s Gate 3. At this spot, you will have to decide between stopping the ritual or letting him Ascend. Choosing any of the options will make the story progress accordingly. You would probably want to select the best option for the sake of your gameplay. And that is why, we are here to help you through this. Take a look below to know if you should let Astarion Ascend in BG3.

Should Astarion Become Vampire Ascendant in BG3?

To make a wise decision, you must know the consequences of all the decisions that can be made. So, here’s what will happen if you choose to stop the ritual, or if you let Astarion Ascend in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3).

    Let the Ritual Continue

Selecting this option will make Astarion the Vampire Ascendant. And in the process, there will be several Vampire Spawns sacrificed including Cazador and Astarion’s six siblings. Astarion’s hunger for power will finally be gone. At first, he will show his gratefulness toward you but later, Astarion will become to sound like Cazador (dominating and arrogant). Moreover, you will sense possessiveness if you are currently Romancing Astarion in BG3.

But on the other side, your party’s overall strength will be increased if you let Astarion Ascend in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3). Letting him complete the Ritual will give him new powers like Ascendant Bite and Misty Escape. Also, you will have a +1d10 Necrotic Damage bonus to weapon and unarmed Attack rolls. Allowing Astarion to Ascend will get you the Disapproval of your other Party Members.

    Stop Astarion

Stopping Astarion from Ascending in BG3

There will be some serious consequences if you decide to stop Astarion from ascending in BG3. For starters, Astarion will show his disappointment toward you. After a cutscene, Astarion will turn into an enemy and try to attack you. And so, you will have no option but to kill Astarion. However, he will become hostile if you stop the ritual in between.

You can stop Astarion from becoming a Vampire Ascendant and keep him in your party at the same time. But for this, you will have to make a Persuasion Check. Now for this, you will have to select the following dialogues when Astarion will ask for your help:

    • “If I help you complete the ritual, it will kill all these people.”
    • “Didn’t you hear him? If you complete the ritual, you’ll be consumed.”

You just need to make Astarion realize about all the bad that will happen if he Ascends in BG3. He will surely realize his mistake and be grateful that you were there for him. This will make him stay in your party.

Note: Selecting the Dialogue “I am not doing this” while Astarion asks for help will make him leave your party permanently.

Now if you ask me to select any one option, I would suggest you should let Astarion Ascend in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3). That’s because his new powers will help you a lot during the end battle. Moreover, I see no reason for him to not become a Vampire Ascendant. I mean, having a couple of disapproval points is worth it if you are getting new powers.

That’s all that can happen if you let Astarion Ascend in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3). Just like this, there are lots of other important decisions that you will have to make during your playthrough.
