It’s time to pick up Forza Horizon 1 & 2 again because Xbox is shutting down its servers in August 2023, so this might be the last time you can enjoy it online. This comes as no surprise because keeping servers up and running costs resources which might not be worth it if enough players aren’t playing the game. But this isn’t exactly bad because these servers and resources can be put to use to improve existing games. So here is what you can expect from the games after their servers go offline and what happens to their single-player modes.
Xbox Servers Shut Down For Forza 1 & 2 Explained
Xbox is going to shut down Forza Horizon 1 & 2 Online Services & Servers on August 22, 2023. The Turn 10 Studio, explained that “these games now have a very small player population”. And so they will be closing online services for these games. The big thing to take note of here is they said: “access to online functionality even prior to the official closure date is not guaranteed”.
But worry not, you buying the game did not get wasted. Both games will still have all of their single-player functionality playable. So with these changes, the online functionality that you lose includes:
- Matchmaking
- Leaderboards
- Browsing & Downloading of Online User Generated Content: Things like Liveries, Vinyls, Tuning Setups, and Photos.
The good thing is, if you bought the games before they got delisted then you can always re-download them. And it also won’t affect the single-player aspects of the game even if you play these games via Backward compatibility.
Does Server Shut Down Affect Forza Horizon 3 & 4?
Forza Horizon 3 & Forza Horizon 4 fans don’t have anything to worry about because of this shutdown. You will still be able to access and enjoy all its online features as they will work as usual.
And if you have never played these games then you don’t have to worry about these server shutdowns. For more news related to Xbox, check out our game’s Wish List for Game Pass July 2023.
