In Monster Hunter Wilds, completing Dareel’s Special Research Report requires capturing a Gillopod, a rare endemic creature found in the Ruins of Wyveria. This task can be slightly challenging due to the Gillopod’s resemblance to the more common Pillopod. This guide will provide steps to locate and capture a Gillopod successfully.
How to Find a Gillopod in MH Wilds
The Gillopod is a stationary creature that sticks to walls and branches within the Ruins of Wyveria. It has a flat, rectangular body with distinct blue markings on top, making it stand out from its smaller cousin, the Pillopod, which is typically pink. Due to its camouflage and immobility, spotting a Gillopod requires sharp observation.
Ensure you have the Capture Net in your inventory, as it’s essential for capturing stationary creatures like the Gillopod.
The Gillopod is located in the Ruins of Wyveria, specifically between areas 7 and 10. Head towards the Wyvern Milk puddle near Area 8 and check the great walls. You should be able to see a large, flat, grey creature with blue markings—this is the Gillopod. Look carefully, as it can blend seamlessly with its surroundings.
While you might often find Pillopods here, there’s a chance to encounter a Gillopod, which appears larger and has a brighter blue color.
Catching the Gillopod
Once you’ve spotted the Gillopod, follow these steps:
- Access your item wheel, select the Capture Net, and keep it ready.
- Hold the aim button to target the Gillopod. When the targeting reticle turns orange, indicating a successful lock-on, press the capture button to secure the creature. The Gillopod’s lack of movement ensures it won’t flee, so it makes for a simple capture.
After successfully capturing the Gillopod, head back to the Windward Plains Base Camp and report to Dareel to complete the quest.
For your efforts, you’ll be rewarded with ten Gloamgrass Buds, five units of Honey, and 300 Guild Points.
Keep in mind that Endemic creatures like the Gillopod might not spawn every time. If you don’t find it on your first attempt, fast travel to another map and return, or rest at a portable BBQ Grill or in your tent to change the time of day and weather. Also, set the Environment to Plenty. This will impact respawn rates.
With these steps, you should be able to find and capture the Gillopod in MH Wilds, as you successfully completing Dareel’s Special Research Report.
