COD MW2 Gunsmith has major changes, it has become somewhat complicated to understand. If you had never played COD before a little research is needed. Veteran players can also get easily confused between a weapon attachment and a weapon receiver. Because both work separately. In this guide, I will share details on what actually is weapon receiver in MW2, how it works, and how it can be a better alternative to standard attachments.
What Is New Weapon Receivers System?
Before we dive deeper into understanding the Receiver Attachments in MW2 let us first have a simple understanding of COD MW2’s Gunsmith 2.0 upgrades. It is a place where you customize your weapons by applying attachments. They are mostly weapon specific, and cannot be cross-used among different weapons. This thing is now changed in MW2. Instead of Weapon Types like AK or Sniper or Shotgun, we have Weapon Platform.
What is a Weapon Platform?
A Weapon Platform is like a Weapon Family. It is different compared to Weapon Category. For example M4 Platform. You can see this below an Assault Rifle or even in another weapon category. When you unlock an attachment under the M4 family you can use that on all weapons that fall under the same platform. Like M16 or FTAC Recon will share similar attachments. Any weapon that falls under the same platform can share attachments. This saves a lot of time in separately unlocking attachments for each weapon.
How to Weapon Receiver works?
Some attachments are platform-specific, which means you can share them across different weapons in the same weapon family. While some specific attachments will be marked as Weapon Reciever. This type of attachment can help you to create a hybrid weapon. They can change the weapon functionality. Weapon Receivers can also be used across a different weapons in the same weapon family.
For example, you can use FSS Hurricane Receiver on any M4 Platform weapon, like M16, and activate machine gun functionality on it.
This makes weapon customization more interesting in COD MW2. With the help of the Weapon Reciever, you can add the function of a different weapon to your existing weapon. This lets players play more with their favorite weapons. They can apply attachments to boost Weapon power and along with this, a “Weapon Receiver Attachment” can bring additional power based on its base weapon.
