You can use the Mirror of Loss in BG3 by passing Religion or Arcane checks. Once you pass the checks, it will ask you to offer a memory to enhance your stats. While the Mirror will offer you a +1 additional bonus, it will decrease -2 of one of your stats.

As you interact with the Mirror of Loss in Baldur’s Gate 3, it will offer you four choices. They are as follows:

  • Study the mirror. Try to grasp its true nature. [Arcana check]
  • An object of faith. Examine it closely. Try to understand its purpose. [Religion check]
  • Offer a prayer to the mirror [Religion check]
  • Leave

Once you select any of the above three options, the Mirror of Loss will ask you to sacrifice a suitable offering. For that, roll the die and pass the DC25 Religion check as you choose the “Offer a Prayer to the Mirror” option. But if you fail this check, choose the “Gaze into a mirror, intent on offering it one of your memories” option. As you select this option, the mirror will ask you to surrender some part of yourself.

Now, you can sacrifice one of the memories to enhance your stats. So, here are all the options offered by the Mirror of Loss in Baldur’s Gate 3:

  • Offer Memories of Strength – times when you triumphed, thanks to your raw power.
    • Stats Boost: +1 Strength
    • Stats Decreased:-2 Wisdom
  • Give up Memories of your Youth, when your heart was carefree and your limbs were nimble.
    • Stats Boost: +1 Wisdom
    • Stats Decreased: -2 Dexterity
  • Relinquish Memories of Fortitude and well-being, when body and mind held fast against all challenges.
    • Stats Boost: +1 Intelligence
    • Stats Decreased: -2 Constitution
  • Surrender valued knowledge from books, scrolls, tablets, … words that left a mark on your mind – but no more
    • Stats Boost: +1 Charisma
    • Stats Decreased: -2 Intelligence

If you want to enhance the decreased stats, you can use the Remove Curse from Gale or Shadowheart. You can also buy this curse as a Magical Scroll. As you use this curse, it will allow you to remove the inflicted -2 stat. But if you have sacrificed one of the Necromancy of Thay memories, there’s no way to restore these stats. So, we recommend not sacrificing those memories.

But in the end, we leave the rest of the decision to you.
