To use the Heatwave in Final Fantasy 16 (FF16), you need to assign it to an ability slot. After equipping it, simply hold R2 and the assigned key to use the Heatwave ability. The best time to use the Heatwave Counter is right before an enemy is about to hit you with a ranged attack. This move also dispels and grants Clive immunity against the incoming damage meanwhile it is active.
How to Unlock Heatwave in Final Fantasy 16
The Heatwave ability is unlocked after acquiring Phoenix’s Power during the Sunrise, Sunset quest. Next, it will be unlocked for purchase in the Phoenix’s Ability Tree. From there, you can purchase or learn this counter move for 120 Ability Points. Also, it is possible to upgrade it by spending some more AP. Following are the available upgrades for Heatwave FFXVI.

How to Unlock Packing Heat Trophy
For those who don’t know, there’s a trophy associated with the usage of the Heatwave ability in Final Fantasy 16 (FF16). The Trophy ‘Packing Heat’ is earned after you use the Heatwave Counter twice in a single battle. But keep in mind that using it in the Hall of Virtue won’t count. While trying to earn this trophy, make sure to keep some distance from the enemy. Doing so will give you slightly more time for executing the Heatwave Counter.
