Baldur’s Gate 3 is notorious for having in-game items that might not look very useful at the start of your campaign but it would make sense as you go through different acts. And it’s the same case with the Brain Jars that you find lying around on the Nautiloid when you start your journey through the lands of Forgotten Realm. These jars are stuffed with consciousness that players can access with the use of a Mind Archive Interface hidden within the Necrotic Laboratory in Act 2 of BG3.

However, things can be pretty confusing at the start and you might know how exactly to use the Brain Jars in Baldur’s Gate 3. Not to mention, there are several mind jars scattered around inside the laboratory as well in the game. So if you want to know how to use the jars effectively in the game, then here is everything you need to know about them.

Players will come across the Brain Jars in Baldur’s Gate 3 inside the Nautiloid in Act One itself. You will need to store them inside your inventory as you won’t find their use till to enter Act Two in your campaign. To use the Brain Jars, players will have to interact with the Slacked Skin Head sitting atop a Mind Archive Interface hidden within the Necrotic Laboratory in BG3.

You will find the Necrotic Laboratory located in the Mind Flayer Colony in the game. Once you enter Act Two, the Mind Flayer Colony will be under the Moonrise Tower Prison. Players will need to head towards the southeast part of the map to come across the laboratory. The Mind Archive Interface is located at X: 699 Y: -117 in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Once you come across it, all you will need to do is interact with the interface and insert the Brain Jars you found on Nautiloid. The Slacked Skin Head atop the interface will assume the consciousness of the mind inside the jar. It is worth mentioning that players will come across only two jars on Nautiloid while others are scattered around the laboratory.

One of the most useful brain jars named the Waking Mind is located behind the Brain Mapping Puzzle in BG3. Once inserted inside the Mind Archive Interface, the Slacked Skin Head will assume the consciousness of a Githzerai warrior in the game. Likewise, there are a whole lot of brain jars that you will come across scattered throughout the laboratory, and here is a list of all of them:

    • Waking Mind – Behind the Brain Mapping Puzzle
    • True Mind – In front of the Mind Archive Interface
    • Butchered Mind – Found on a shelf inside the Morgue
    • Closed Mind – Found on the shelf inside Ironfinger’s room
    • Fresh Mind – Found on top of boxes beside the elevator
    • Dark Mind – Southeast table on the Nautiloid
    • Slave Mind – Ceremorphosis room on the Nautiloid

That’s everything covered in this guide. If you find this guide helpful, be sure to check out our other guides BG3 Guides section, right here on Gamer Tweak.
