While inside the Gauntlet of Shar, you’ll need 4 Umbral Gems to proceed further in Baldur’s Gate 3. Once you have reached the Mausoleum, you will come across an Ancient Altar with empty spaces. Those empty spaces need to be filled by the Umbral Gems. Now, 3 of them can be found by completing trials, but the 4th one needs to be retrieved from Orthon Yurgir. At first glance, it may sound like a hectic job to do. And that’s why, we are here to help you through this. Here’s where you can find all 4 Umbral Gems in BG3.
Where to Find Umbral Gems in BG3
Check out below to know the location for all 4 Umbral Gems in Baldur’s Gate 3:
1st Umbral Gem Location – Soft-Step Trial
All the Trials will start by interacting with the Sacrificial Bowl. You need to pour a few drops of your blood to start the trial. If you have Shadowheart in your party, then you can send her too. It will help you gain her approval, in case you are looking to Romance her.
Anyways, to complete the Soft-Step Trial, you need a sneaky character with Sleight of Hand. Astarion can be a worthy candidate to complete this trial. You will find your Umbral Gem behind a Wrought-Iron Gate here.
2nd Umbral Gem Location – Self-Same Trial
After collecting the first Umbral Gem in BG3, you can find the 2nd one during the Self-Same Trial. During this trial, you will be facing none other than yourself. The trial will create a mirror version of you with the exact same abilities and armor. While everything will be mirrored, your skills will remain unique to you. And to pull this battle in your favor, you can remove your armor before starting the trial. Once you have defeated the mirror version of yourself, you can head over and loot the 2nd Umbral Gem from it.
3rd Umbral Gem Location – Faith-Leap Trial
With 2 Gems in your inventory, the third one can be found by completing the Faith-Leap Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3). Before pouring your blood and starting the trial, I suggest you adjust the brightness of the screen to the maximum. That’s because, in this trial, the floor will be covered with dark shadow. You’ll have to walk on the right path to reach out to the Umbral Gem on the other side. You can Jump, or use the Fly spell to cover the maximum distance correctly.
4th Umbral Gem Location – Orthon’s Lair
The 4th and final Umbral Gem can be retrieved from Orthon Yurgir, Raphael’s Old Enemy in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3). His Lair is found near the Gauntlet of Shar waypoint. For your reference, we have marked Yurgir’s location in the image below.
Now, you can either attack Yurgir and waste your precious energy, or convince him to kill himself. But why would Yurgir kill himself? Well, he is bound by a contract with Raphael that says that Yurgir must kill his audience. Taking advantage of this, you can perform Persuasion Checks to make Yurgir kill his forever audience (his minions and pet). Once they are all dead, tell Yurgir that he has been his audience for a long time and should kill himself.
Once he kills himself, you can collect the final Umbral Gem and proceed to further locations in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3). Does that sound like a lot to do? You can check out this video by ZaFrostPet to not miss out on any nook and cranny inside this quest:
