Do you want to buy an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S and want to know how to transfer data from Xbox One to those next-gen consoles? We’ve got you covered. After getting the Series X or S, you can choose any of the multiple processes to continue playing the games that you have been playing. We’ve detailed all of them in this guide.
How to Transfer Data from Xbox One to Xbox Series X & S
As soon as you have decided which games you want to transfer to the next gen consoles, you can follow three ways of transferring data. That’s through Xbox Live account, Network Transfer and with an External Drive. Do note that the Series X and S use an internal NVME SSD so you need to be sure of the games you want to move to it. Now, let’s look at all the different formats of transferring in more detail.
How to Move Games Using Xbox Live Account?
The simplest way is to use your own Xbox Live account – the same one you use for your Xbox One – and sign into it on your Xbox Series X. Once that is done, you can load a desired game and it will bring up your Cloud save file. When everything gets set up, you can continue playing it but with next-gen capabilities. This only works for games that support Smart Delivery so go ahead and check if your favorite games support it.
Transferring Data Using Network Transfer
If both consoles are on the same local network, you can transfer data from Xbox One to Xbox Series X, S with the process detailed below:
- With the Xbox One switched on, press the Xbox button on the controller.
- Head to Profile & System.
- Choose Settings > System.
- Next, go to Backup & Transfer and Allow Network Transfer.
- Now, switch on the Xbox Series X or S but don’t turn off the Xbox One.
- Find the Backup & Transfer option on the new consoles.
- If everything has been done correctly, you will see your Xbox One console under “Local Consoles”.
- Go ahead and choose the games you want to move. Then Copy Selected while ensuring that there’s enough space for the copy to happen hassle-free.
- Finally, select Copy. This will successfully transfer data from Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S.
Transfer Games To Xbox Series X/S Using External Drive
To transfer installed games to your new next-gen console, you need to first plug a USB 3.0 external drive (HDD or SSD) with enough storage space into your Xbox One. Now transfer it with these steps: System > Storage > Internal Drive > Press A. Simply transfer the games you want to move and select Copy Selected. This will transfer the games into the external drive.
Next, you need to power down your Xbox One, remove the drive from it and do the same process for Xbox Series X/S. The only difference will be that you have to choose the external drive and then transfer data from Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S. This is the easiest and possibly fastest way to do it. Remember that you will have to wait for some time until the external drive is detected on the X or S.
That’s all about transferring games and data from an older console to brand new ones! This will surely save your effort of redownloading games. Have more questions about the Xbox Series X or S?
