How to Trade with Friends in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl (BDSP) –
Online & Local
Before you can start trading you first need to defeat the first gym leader and get the 1st badge from Oreburgh City. Having this badge allows you to trade online. Below are the ways on how you can trade.

How to Trade Locally with Friends in Pokemon BDSP
This way of trading doesn’t require the internet. But the player whom you wish to trade with should be around you.
- Go to any Pokemon Center.
- There use the escalator to go to the 1st Floor.
- Here talk to the Nurse on the middle counter. She will greet you telling “Welcome to the Union Room”.
- You can find the Local Room within Union Room.
- Go to the Local Room.
- The moment you enter the local room you can find players that want to trade with a sigh that looks like two swapping pokeballs above their head.
- You can also press the Y-Button and choose call. Here you get options like Battle, Trade, Mix Records and Never mind. Here choose trade.
How to Online Trade with Friends
Trading online is very simple and similar to local trade.
- Go to Any Pokemon Center.
- Use the escalator to go to the basement.
- You can talk to any of the nurses in the center of the room.
- This will give you access to the Global Room.
- Just like local trading, you can find players to trade with a sign of two swapping pokeballs above their heads.
- Again you can press Y-Button here to get other options like Battle, Trade, etc.
Just remember that one of the players has to have the sign while the other has to approach in order to trade. And this is common for both online and offline trade. Another thing to keep in mind is you need the Nintendo Online Subscription in order to use Global room and trade online.
Lastly, once you access the global room for the first time, you can press the Y-Button anywhere outside to access the Union Room.
Trading Items
Trading Items in Pokemon BDSP is easier than you think and you don’t need to do anything extra. You can trade items with the help of your Pokemon. Below are the steps on how you can trade items.
- Make your Pokemon hold the item you wish to trade. Tell your friend to do the same if you wish to request an item from them.
- Select your method of trading that is local or online trade.
- Transfer over the Pokemon.
- Upon receiving the Pokemon. Go to the Pokemon menu and take the item from the received pokemon.
