Virginia is timid by nature and thus will run away anytime she feels scared. Fear can be triggered by taking damage in a fight against cannibals. But fear can also be triggered by players hitting Virginia on accident. So keep her close and protected if you don’t what her to dash the scene.
While there are in-game reasons behind her strange behavior, bugs are also a huge reason behind her weird sprints. A glitch called ‘Behind a day’ where she will spawn at a location you visited the day before is also a main culprit behind her movements. Players who have tried to put a GPS tracker on her to solve the issue might have noticed a glitch with this solution too. Since the game is still in early access, bugs and glitches like these will be a common occurrence for the time being.
