Sony Confirms DualShock 4 Works With PS5, But Not With PlayStation 5 Games

When switching to the PS5, you don’t have to say goodbye to the PS4 accessories you bought earlier. Some products are still compatible. But there are restrictions. For example, support for DualShock 4 is limited to compatible PS4 games.

As part of the Future of Gaming digital event, Sony not only presented the PS5, but a number of accessories have also been revealed, which will also be launched in the pre-Christmas season. Various peripheral devices of the PS4 are also compatible with the new console.

Today, on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony released a small overview of the current-gen hardware that you can continue to use in the coming generation.

Which existing PS4 peripherals/accessories will work on PS5?

  1. Specialty peripherals, such as officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks, will work with PS5 games and supported PS4 games.

2.  The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets, as well as third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will work on PS5 (the headset companion app is not compatible with PS5).

3. The DualShock 4 wireless controller and PlayStation officially licensed third-party gamepad controllers will work with supported PS4 games.

4. Both the PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.

Please note, not all PlayStation officially licensed or third-party peripherals/accessories may work on PS5. We recommend checking with the manufacturer to confirm whether a product will work on PS5 and specific titles.

Sony also addressed the question of whether the DualShock 4 can be used when using PS5 games. “No, we believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller,” can be also read from the statement.

But can the PS4 camera be used on the PS5? You can continue to use them for supported PSVR games. However, there is a tiny catch: You need a PlayStation camera adapter that is made available to PSVR users at no additional cost. Further details on the adapter will be made available at a later date.

PlayStation 5 will release in late 2020. So far, Sony has not given an exact release date. The price is also not given.
