The Dragonflight expansion for WoW is a treat for crafters thanks to how the new professions work. There is a lot to do, that can not only increase your engagement but also distinguish you from other crafters in Azeroth. Don’t worry there is something for the Alchemists too. So in this guide check out how Crafting and Alchemy work in WoW: Dragonflight.
How Professions Work in WoW Dragonflight
The biggest change in the professions of WoW Dragonflight is how Crafting works. In it, you need to know about the following concepts:
- Crafting Orders
- Professions Specialization
- Item Quality and its Effects
- Crafting Stats
Aside from Crafting you should also learn about Phials in Alchemy.
Crafting Orders
This is a mechanic that allows you to place an order to get almost anything crafted which uses Dragon Isles crafting recipes. It gives you 3 options for placing an order:
- Public: When placing a Public order, you also need to provide the reagents to the crafter needed for your item or equipment.
- Guild: It is up to the Crafter & and the Requester to decide who provides the reagents.
- Personal: Again, it is up to the Crafter & and the Requester to decide who provides the reagents.
Do remember there are exceptions for providing these reagents. Depending on the item or the equipment the requestor might need to provide the reagents beforehand. For example this is applicable when making Soulbound items.
After completing the order, the Requester has to pay the crafter. And they will receive the item in their mail.
Professions Specialization
This is a handy feature for crafters as they can specialize in a particular area of crafting. This is useful because if you already have another crafter in your guild, you can be useful in other ways by specializing. So you could be an armorsmith while your guildmate is a weaponsmith. The four areas where you can specialize your professions for crafting are:
- Armorsmithing
- Weaponsmithing
- Speciality Smithing
- Hammer Control
Crafting Stats
The crafting stats work as a passive, there are 4 crafting stats:
- Inspiration: While crafting the recipe, there is an n% chance that you craft it with extra skill.
- Resourcefulness: While crafting the recipe, there is an n% chance that you will craft it using fewer reagents than needed.
- Multicraft: While crafting the recipe, there is an n% chance that you craft additional items with it. This stat only works on recipes for stackable items.
- Crafting Speed: While crafting the recipe, there is an n% chance that you will craft it faster.
Item Quality and its Effects
Every crafted piece of item or equipment is also going to have some quality. This is different from its rarity and is shown by Tiers from 1 to 5. The higher the quality the more your item level will be. This is also applied to consumables, the better the consumable, the more powerful and longer its effects will be.
Do remember though the low-quality equipment aren’t all that bad and has its own perks. And that thing is, they are sold for a cheaper price.
The quality of your reagents will also reflect on the item. If you use higher-quality basic reagents, you get bonus skills when crafting with them. But sadly not all reagents can have quality, here are the ones that can and cannot have quality.
- Reagents obtained from primary gathering professions have quality. These include:
- Ores
- Skins
- Scales
- Hides
- Herbs
- Cloth Bolts
- Metal Alloys
- Reagents that anyone can collect won’t have quality:
- Meat
- Cloth
- Fish
Finally, the crafting process is another factor that determines your equipment quality. The crafting process takes these two factors into account.
- Recipe Difficulty: Checks for how difficult the recipe is and how many optional reagents are used.
- Crafting Skill: Checks for the base skill of the character for that profession.
Phials
Alchemists now have the option to specialize in Phials. Phials are very similar to how Flasks used to work in the game. The only exception is that Phials will require you half the amount of reagents for crafting as that of a Flask. But their effects are also reduced by half.
Other Changes
Aside from the above changes in professions players can also find 4 new crafting stations in the Dragon Isles. These are:
- Engineering Station
- Enchanting Station
- Jewelcrafting Station
- Portable Alchemy Station
And players can now also get profession-specific equipment. The best part is they get auto-equipped. This is thanks to the addition of three new slots one of which is for your tools and the other two for your accessories.
While playing you will still discover that there is more to professions than explained above. But the above is just the basics that you must know.
