Terraria Pickaxe Tiers Explained

While Terraria consists of different types of general tools for survival, it’s the Pickaxe used to mine stones, ores, and other blocks that make the difference for players early on. After spawning in the sandbox world, you will begin your adventure with a Copper Pickaxe. And while it will make do for most of the basic resources & ores early in the game, there are various Pickaxe tiers each with a different power percentage in the game. Meaning, that the Pickaxe Power will affect the blocks the tool can mine along with its speed and damage.

Having said that, you will need to acquire the different Pickaxe as you progress further to mine rare ores and blocks. This will help you acquire materials at a much quicker pace as well as mine every block till the Lihzahrd Brick. Tier 1

In the first tier, you will see Pickaxe with mining power between 35% to 49% in Terraria. With this Pickaxe, you will be able to mine ores up to Gold and platinum along with dirt, stones, sand, etc:

• Copper Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Copper Bars & x4 Wood has a mining power of 30%.
• Tin Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Tin Bars & x4 Wood has a mining power of 35%.
• Cactus Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Cacti has a mining power of 35%.
• Iron Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Iron Bars & x3 Wood has a mining power of 40%.
• Lead Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Lead Bars & x3 Wood has a mining power of 43%.
• Silver Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Silver Bars & x4 Wood has a mining power of 45%.

Tier 2

In Tier 2, the Pickaxes have power between 50% to 54% and can mine ores up to Meteorite. This includes gold, platinum, and all the other basic resources:

• Tungsten Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Tungsten Bars & x4 Wood has a mining power of 50%.
• Bone Pickaxe – Dropped from Undead Miner has a mining power of 50%.

Tier 3

In these Pickaxe tiers, you will come across those that can mine up to Demonite and Crimtane with a power between 55% to 64%:

• Gold Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Gold Bars & x4 Wood has a mining power of 55%.
• Candy Cane Pickaxe – Found in Presents has a mining power of 55%.
• Platinum Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Platinum Bars & x4 Wood has a mining power of 59%.

Tier 4

Tier 4 consists of the Pickaxe in Terraria that has power between 60% to 99% and can mine Hellstone, Obsidian, Ebonstone, Crimstone, and Dungeon Brick:

• Nightmare Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Demonite Bars & x6 Shadow Scales has a mining power of 65%.
• Deathbringer Pickaxe – Crafted with x12 Crimtane Bars & x6 Tissue Samples has a mining power of 70%.

Tier 5

Tier 5 Pickaxe can mine up to Cobalt and Palladium Ores in Terraria including all the resources till then:

• Molten Pickaxe – Crafted with x20 Hellstones Bars has a mining power of 100%.
• Reaver Shark – Found by fishing in the ocean has a mining power of 59%.

Tier 6

Here you will find Pickaxes with power between 110% to 149% and can min up to Mythril and Orichalcum:

• Cobalt Pickaxe – Crafted with x15 Cobalt Bars and has a mining power of 110%.
• Palladium Pickaxe – Crafted with x18 palladium Bars and has a mining power of 130%.

Tier 7

These Pickaxes can mine up to Adamantite and Titanium in Terraria:

• Mythril Pickaxe – Crafted with x15 Mythril Bars and has a mining power of 150%.
• Orichalcum Pickaxe – Crafted with x18 Orichalcum Bars and has a mining power of 165%.
• Adamantite Pickaxe – Crafted with x18 Adamantite Bars and has a mining power of 180%.
• Titanium Pickaxe – Crafted with x20 Titanium Bars and has a mining power of 190%.

Tier 8

Here are Pickaxes that can mine everything except the Lihzahrd Brick:

• Chlorophyte Pickaxe – Crafted with x18 Chlorophyte Bars and has a mining power of 200%.
• Spectre Pickaxe – Crafted with x18 Ectoplasm and has a mining power of 200%.
• Pickaxe Axe – Crafted with x18 Hallowed Bars, x1 Soul of Fright, x1 Soul of Might & x1 Soul of Sight and has mining power of 200%(+ 110% Axe Power).
• Shroomite Digging Claw – Crafted with x18 Shroomite Bars and has a mining power of 200%(+115% Axe Power).

Endgame Tier

The Endgame Tier Pickaxes in Terraria can mine everything from the dirt up to Lihzahrd Brick:
Picksaw – Drops from Golem has a mining power of 210%(+ 125% Axe Power)

• Nebula Pickaxe – Crafted x12 Nebula Fragments & x10 Luminite Bars and has a mining power of 225%.
• Solar Flare Pickaxe – Crafted x12 Solar Fragments & x10 Luminite Bars and has a mining power of 225%.
• Stardust Pickaxe – Crafted x12 Stardust Fragments & x10 Luminite Bars and has a mining power of 225%.
• Vortex Pickaxe – Crafted x12 Vortex Fragments & x10 Luminite Bars and has a mining power of 225%.
