Wondering if you can pause your game and rethink all the strategies before going through combat or situations in Baldur’s Gate 3? With its full release, players will be able to traverse across lands further than in Act 1 of the game. And as BG3 with its vast narrative is a game of careful considerations and the right choices to make, players might need some time to do the thinking part. Not to mention, you might come across a situation where you need to actively pause the game to take a break or strategize your next move in-game. So if you are looking to pause the game in between, here is a guide you should check out to find out if there is a way to do so.
How to Pause in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Unfortunately, as of now, there is no dedicated feature to actively pause your game in Baldur’s Gate 3. The game will keep running its events, situation, combat, etc even if players try to enter the main menu to take a break. Even cutscenes can’t be entirely frozen, all players can do is skip them. Although in a narrative-rich game like BG3, it is not very ideal to do so. The best bet for players to pause the game would be to enable the Turn Based mode in the game. And although it won’t actively pause the game in Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s the closest mechanic you can try out in situations where you have to head out, take a break or strategize, etc.
How to Enable Turn-Based Mode in BG3
Players can enable the Turn Based mode by clicking on the Hour Glass at the bottom right of your action bar. Another way would be to simply press Shift + Space on your keyboard to directly trigger and enable or disable the mode. As players enter the Turn Based mode, each character in their party will be allowed to take turns even without being in combat. After which the environment around them will take a turn accordingly.
Now as this doesn’t actively pause Baldur’s Gate 3, it gives you the time you want while playing. Although we recommend enabling the mode in a safe location in the game. As enemies can still walk in and attack your party while the environment turn goes. Another easy way out would be to Fast Travel to camp and get rest or interact with other companions in Baldur’s Gate 3.
