Updated Date :

A lot of Pokemon need Items to evolve and Onix and Scyther are two such Pokemon. Not every Pokemon needs the same item to evolve though. In the case of Onix and Scyther, both of them need a Metal Coat. So in this guide let us see how to get a Metal Coat in Pokemon GO and what other prerequisites are there for their evolutions.

Metal Coat in Pokemon GO can be obtained by spinning Pokestops. Unfortunately, this item has a very low drop rate, and hence you won’t be able to get your hands on it as easily as you might when getting Pokeballs. What makes things worse is that its drop rate can be as low as 1% and you will need to spin around 500 Pokestops before you get a metal coat. And to make things worse is that it is an evolutionary item so if your luck isn’t with you, you might spin 500 Pokestops just to get your hands on a Kings Rock. Not that Kings Rock is any bad item, just that if you are looking to evolve your Onix or Scyther it won’t be of any use to you.

How to Evolve Onix and Scyther using Metal Coat

Evolving Onix to Steelix requires you to have 1 Metal Coat and 50 Onix Candy. Steelix is a Steel and Ground-type Pokemon. Steelix is a very powerful Pokemon. It is strong against several types such as ice, fairy, and rock Pokemon. Similar to Steelix, Scizor requires you to have 1 metal coat and 50 Scyther Candy. Scizor is quite a powerful Pokemon. It is a Bug and Steel-type Pokemon. Being a Steel-type it does get strength against the same types as that of Steelix but be wary of the Fire-type. Because Scizor is a Bug and Steel Pokemon it is very weak against Fire-type Pokemon, as Fire is very effective against both of these types.

That sums up everything about getting Metal Coat in Pokemon GO and how to use them for evolutions. Check out our guide on which is the better Pokemon Slowbro or Slowking to get a better type advantage when playing this game.
