Darth Vader Vs Kylo Ren is a fight that has sparked several debates for years now on who the winner would be. The chosen one or his own grandson? The question of one being more powerful than the other has been brought up several times. Both of these characters share one thing and that is having untapped potential. Spoilers warning, there are going to be some points brought up from the movies and other canon events throughout the series.
Be it the conflict Kylo had after killing Han Solo, his father. Or Anakin Skywalker losing his body in the fight against Obi-Wan on Mustafar. Both characters have some things that hold them back. But which of the Skywalkers is stronger than the other to overcome the odds? Well, the answer shouldn’t be shocking.
Who would Win if Kylo Ren fought Darth Vader?
The short answer to no one’s surprise is Darth Vader would win. Darth Vader has several feats that far surpass Kylo Ren. The only thing canonically Kylo Ren has over Vader is the fact he defeated the Zilo Beast. Which in itself is arguable, because Vader didn’t fight him from the inside. Which Kylo did and possibly exploited the beast’s weakness.
Another thing is Darth Vader is a Sith Lord. Kylo Ren technically is a Dark Side user. His being a Sith is debatable as he doesn’t follow all of their practices. However, let’s not digress. Here is why Vader would win.
Fighting Style
Darth Vader and Kylo Ren both are users of the Form V of the lightsaber combat style. While as Anakin Skywalker he originally was a user of the Shien variant of Form V. He eventually was using Djem So. Kylo Ren is also a user of the Djem So Form V which works even better for his crossguard and unstable Lightsaber.
You might think that if they both use the same style how does Vader have an advantage over Ren? The answer is Vader uses a new variant of Form V. After his defeat on Mustafar and losing his body, Vader couldn’t use the traditional combat style with his life support armor. As such he had no option but to relearn it while changing it. So even if Kylo would technically know how both the usual variants of Form V work. He wouldn’t immediately be able to get used to the style that Vader uses.
The only or at least one of the only scenarios where Vader would lose is if he were to hold back considering Kylo is his grandson. As he held back against Luke.
But this was considering only saber combat. Who knows Kylo might (somehow) outpower Vader when it comes to Force. Do remember though that Anakin was the chosen one and he also had a very high midi-chlorian count. However, these points are very situational based because there have been many instances where Anakin was considered stronger than Yoda. But we never saw the two fight. Also, Anakin being stronger in force didn’t help him in his fights against Count Dooku or Obi-Wan.
That settles the question of who is stronger between Darth Vader and Kylo Ren. Speaking of these characters, you should also check out the timeline where the Jedi Fallen order falls. In this game, you can meet Cal Kestis, who may possibly be stronger than Kylo Ren.
