Finding clues and identifying Shade in Phasmophobia is one of the toughest tasks. They are the shyest ghosts you will encounter in the series. They are so shy that they stop all paranormal activities when they detect people nearby. So just sitting there and waiting for Shade to start hunting or do something is not going to help much. If you have been at the location for a long time, your Sanity is less than 50, and still haven’t seen any ghost activity, then you might be dealing with Shade.

  • Shade’s strength is that they are much harder to find. Even when forced to appear with something like a Music Box, they mostly stay in shadowy form.
  • One of the clues to identify Shade in Phasmophobia is that you will see little to no ghost activity. Especially when you are in the same room as Shade.
  • It will not start hunting if your Sanity is above 35.
  • Shade also doesn’t start hunting when it’s in the same room as players, even when their Sanity is less than 35.
  • There are three pieces of evidence or clues you can use to identify Shade in Phasmophobia.
    • EMF level 5 – If the EMF reader hits level 5, when you are not in the room, then it can be Shade. If you are in the same room as the ghost while testing, then EMF will not get higher than 3. It might not even get to 3.
    • Freezing Temperatures – When you are in the same room as Shade, you will see breath. So use the thermometer, and check if the temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius/centigrade.
    • Ghost Writing – Use the Ghost Writing book and wait till it interacts with it. This evidence can be used even when you are in the same room as Shade.
