In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, effectively managing your saves is crucial due to the game’s realistic and challenging nature. The game offers several methods to save your progress, and you need to plan strategically when to go for which one. Here’s everything you need to know about the availability of auto and manual saves.
How to Save Progress in KCD 2
Sleeping in a Bed
Like many games, you can save in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 by sleeping in a bed. You can get your own bed or use accommodations across the map. This not only saves your progress but also helps you pass the time.
In the early game when you’re just figuring things out, you can look for the bed in Tachov (near Troskowitz), and talk to the Blacksmith Radovan. This will initiate a quest called A Blacksmith’s Son and after you complete the objectives, you will receive a room with a bed to sleep in.
Consuming Saviour Schnapps
Players of KCD need no reminder of Saviour Schnapps, a potion that helps you save the game. Drinking it allows you to save the game any time you wish, so you don’t have to wait to find a bed or complete a quest checkpoint.
Saviour Schnapps can be purchased from Apothecary Emmerich, bought from Bathhouse Owner Dorothy, and obtained from locked chests. You can also craft it at the Apothecary station with Wine, x1 Nettle, and x2 Belladonna if you have the recipe. Given their value, it’s best to use them sparingly and reserve them for critical moments.
Speaking of Bathhouses, if you’re near one and want to save, you can ask for Extra Service which will give you an option to save your game as well.
Using Console Commands
The KCD 2 cheat wh_sys_NoSavePotion = 1 lets you manually save without requiring the Saviour Schnapps potion, but before using it, make sure you have enabled the option to activate them.
Quest Checkpoints
There are checkpoints that will automatically save your game when you’re at the start or end of quests but it’s best not to depend on them to work flawlessly. If your game crashes midway, you might lose hours of progress in KCD 2 so, it’s best to stop your gaming session with one of the reliable save game options.
Save and Quit Option
There’s a “Save and Quit” feature in the pause menu that allows you to save your game upon exiting. This is useful if you need to stop playing unexpectedly. You can reload this save at any point, but only one exit save is maintained at a time; creating a new exit save will overwrite the previous one.
Coachman NPC
You will come across the Coachman NPC who will be a crucial part of fast traveling between locations in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and when you speak to him, a save file is automatically created. If you want to actually fast travel, you need to shell out a fee of 200 Groschen each time.
Given the limited and strategic nature of saving the game in KCD 2, always plan your actions. Before starting something risky or important, follow one of the reliable methods to save to ensure that you don’t lose hours of effort.
