Overwatch 2 How To Play DPS

Just like in any other FPS game, there are support players, there are utility players and then there are fraggers. Although Overwatch is a high-paced game with only semi-dependent on actual weapon-based abilities, there are champions in the game with the highest damaging abilities. These champions, often called ‘Damage Dealers’ or simply DPS, are the ultimate duelists and have the sole purpose of getting as many frags as possible. Overwatch’s beta test run gave the players a general idea that this installment of the series is definitely looking at buffed DPS heroes and a faster playstyle and relies on the Damage role to be at the top of the scoreboard. In this guide, we will give you some tricks on how to play a DPS role effectively & utilize these Damage Heroes in Overwatch 2.

How to Play DPS Role in Overwatch 2

The role of a Damage Class character in Overwatch, as the name suggests, is to lash out maximum damage to the enemy teams. These are the attack frontiers of the team and aim to take advantage of angles and space created by the Tanks. If you are planning to try playing a DPS hero, there’s no better time than now as OW2 has brought an overall movement and reload speed buff for all Damage Class characters. This was done because it allow DPS mains to create the kind of impact in game that would make it more fun and interesting. Here are some tips to get you started:

Overwatch 2 How To Play DPS

Learn the DPS Playstyles in Overwatch 2

There are a variety of DPS heroes to choose from in OW2. These have some vastly different set of abilities that facilitate different playstyles. Some DPS characters allow for more offensive close combats and have abilities that deal quick but heavy damage. Some examples of these are Tracer, Genji and Reaper. However if you’re someone who prefers ranged combats and have quick reactions, you could opt for Widowmaker as she is a sniper.

Know The Maps in Overwatch 2

As a DPS player, you should try to learn the nooks and crannies of the maps in the map pool. This allows you to get sneaky kills and gives you vantage points on your enemies that would not expect damage coming from sitelines away from your team. DPS are the only players that can have the ability to capture different areas of the map and attack while using your Tanks as a distraction.

    High Ground Advantage for DPS

A lot of DPS characters in Overwatch 2 like Hanzo and Genji have some sort of movement ability that lets them reach areas where other Tank players cannot. You should use these abilities, especially ones that let you boost to a higher plane. This gives you an off angle to shoot from that your enemies would find difficult to defend or retaliate to.

    Switching DPS Characters

Being a DPS main, you may try to rush into an enemy’s territory to frag out but this also increases your chances of being eliminated the most. If some character is not working out for you, it is recommended to switch things up. OW2 even allows you to keep 30% of Ultimate points upon switching heroes.

    Flanking with Damage Heroes

This is one of the most important aspects of any FPS game and it is usually one of the DPS players’ responsibility. Flanking or also known as ‘backstab’ involves sneakily going behind the enemy lines and eliminating their Support players or Flank-watchers. Some characters like Tracer, Pharah and Sombra have great mobility skills and endurance required for a Flanker.

That’s all there is on how to play the DPS role & utilize the Damage Heroes in Overwatch 2. Hopefully we have helped you with this article. If you want more related content, check out our guides on Overwatch 2 at Gamer Tweak.
