Salt is a crucial resource for survival in Once Human because you will require it for the Meat Drier which helps you keep food unspoiled for longer. There are two ways to get it—by finding it while exploring or crafting it. Here are the steps to follow for both methods.
How to Get Salt in Once Human
- Crafting from Sea water
- Finding it in Containers
Crafting from Sea water is the most reliable method
Gather Sea water
Head to any coastline and look for the “Collect Sea Water” prompt when you’re close enough to the ocean. If you can’t see this specific prompt, chances are that you are at a smaller water body like a lake.
When you’re ready to visit the coastline, you can travel there on your motorcycle to save time. Once collected, go back to your base by driving back or teleporting.
Craft a Stove if you haven’t already
Unlock Stoves in the Logistics tab of the Memetics menu. Then press B to place the Stove in your base.
Under Facilities, you’ll find Production Processing and under Crafting there’s the Stove. It requires 25x Copper Ore, 20x Gravel, 30x Charcoal and 10x Metal Scraps.
Copper Ore and Gravel can be mined, Charcoal can be crafted in the Furnace with Tree Logs and Metal Scraps can be found or disassembled at the Disassembly Bench.
Convert Sea water into Salt
With the Stove built and Sea water collected, interact with the Stove. You should see a “Salt” recipe. Add the Seawater and fuel (like Logs) to start the process. Wait for it to finish, and you’ll have your salt!
Finding Salt in Containers
You might find some pre-made salt scattered around the world in containers or in locations with plenty of loot, especially near the coastlines. However, there’s a low chance of finding it so you’re better off crafting salt in Once Human.
Salt is essential for preserving fish and meat which will extend the shelf life of food helping satiate your hunger for longer.
A Meat Drier can be made with 10x Copper Ingots, 15x Metal Scraps and 20x Logs. Once done, deposit the raw materials like Beast Meat along with the Salt Input and wait for the Cured Meat output.
For example, in this case, you receive Preserved Meat which is cured and air-dried food that lasts long but reduces Hydration.
