If you are familiar with memories in Darkest Dungeon 2, the hero shrine offers our heroes a similar kind of buff with the help of flashbacks. The past haunts our heroes. They suppress the burden that lies in their history, hero shrines offer players a chance to understand these characters better. So not only are these Shrines important for giving your characters the necessary abilities and upgrades you can also learn more about them. This is what the Hero Shrines do in this game and how you can use them.
What are Hero Shrines in Darkest Dungeon 2?
There is a Shrine Of Reflection on the map that pops up randomly when our heroes in their stagecoach pass through certain locations. Every hero has a shrine here, with more insights and information on their past. When you reach there, you have to choose a hero whose backstory you’d want to hear.
Tip – Choose a hero whose ability you would like to increase or a hero that seems very stressed. Also if a particular hero’s affinity is low with their teammates you should opt for them.
After you select the hero you get to watch a flashback of their backstory. We get to see up to five chapters of their past. Not only the players but also the other characters get to hear the flashbacks and the comments from the hero expressing their feelings after every backstory.
The backstories are portrayed through five chapters. The chapters are either told in a story format with a visual representation of it. Or it is combat-related flashback. Our heroes receive certain skills at the end of every reflection over the past and for sharing it. For example, Jester received a Playout skill, that will help him make the target move back one rank.
In this way, the Shrine Of Reflection or the Hero Shrines presents our hero’s history and also gives them new skills and buffs. It reveals their past to them, connecting them to their original personalities. Consider it as an upgrade to your characters.
