GTA 6 Weapon System: Guns Will Be Harder to Carry Around

Published Date :

GTA 6 is changing how weapons are carried and used when players are outside combat. Unlike GTA 5, where characters could pull out almost any weapon whenever they wanted, Rockstar is giving guns a more realistic presence in the world while also making NPC reactions more believable. Here’s how things are changing in the upcoming instalment of Grand Theft Auto.

You Can Only Hide Certain Weapons in GTA 6

Players can carry two concealed handguns at any time. Long guns work differently, with room for two in total, although only one can be hidden by placing it on the character’s back. The other weapon has to be carried openly, making your loadout visible to people nearby.

NPCs Will Notice Drawn Weapons

This new system also changes how civilians behave around armed characters. A long gun strapped to your back won’t cause much concern, but holding one in your hands can make nearby NPCs uncomfortable. Some may move away, while police can react differently depending on what they see. This gives players another reason to think about when and where they pull out a weapon, similar to RDR2.

Why is Rockstar Changing the System?

In GTA 5, players could switch to almost any weapon instantly, even in crowded areas, without much reaction from the surrounding world. According to Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, Rockstar is trying to achieve a new level of detail in GTA 6 and will include more advanced NPC behavior. This means ignoring an openly displayed rifle would feel much less believable.

The change makes your loadout matter outside of shootouts and players will have to plan accordingly. Carrying a rifle through a busy area could attract attention, while keeping it stored on your back gives you a less noticeable way to move around.

It is a small gameplay change, but it fits Rockstar’s broader approach to making Vice City feel more reactive and immersive. Rockstar has not yet revealed every detail of the weapon system, but the current information suggests that players will have to be more conscious of how they carry their guns.
