Will GTA 6 Be Released On PS4? Latest News

Will GTA 6 be released on the previous-gen PlayStation 4 console at launch, some time later or…never?

While GTA 6 doesn’t have a fixed release date as of now, we know that it is coming out in 2025. As of September 30, 2020, more than 113.5 million units of the PlayStation 4 have been sold and those who haven’t transitioned to the PS5 are wondering, will GTA 6 be released on PS4? The trailer did not mention anything about the previous-gen consoles, so here’s everything you need to know about it.

Is there a GTA 6 Release Date for PS4

Unfortunately, GTA 6 won’t be releasing for the PS4 or the Xbox One consoles. Rockstar Games has confirmed that the game will be a current-gen exclusive, only available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.

While this news is disappointing for PS4 players, if you want to experience Grand Theft Auto 6, moving to a PS5 console is the best thing to do (either new or pre-owned). It’s worth noting that the PlayStation 5 has been out for nearly three years now.

Why is GTA 6 only coming to PS5 and not PS4?

This decision is most likely due to the game making the most of the improved graphical capabilities and processing power of the of the newer consoles. GTA 6 is expected to be a graphically-heavy title, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in open-world game development. The limitations of the PS4 hardware wouldn’t allow the developers to fully bring their vision for the game to reality.

The PlayStation 5, on the other hand, boasts of significantly better hardware capability that leads to better simulations, better visuals and enhanced character visuals and interactions. Moreover, the audio and haptic feedback may take the action-adventure title to the next level.

Faster Loading Times

SSDs enable much faster loading times compared to the PS4’s HDD and provide more immersion, reducing interruptions or frequent pauses.

Graphical Fidelity

PS5 and Xbox Series X/S support ray tracing for realistic lighting and reflections, and higher-resolution textures for incredibly detailed environments. These features wouldn’t translate well to the PS4’s limitations, thereby sacrificing visual quality.

Focus on Next-Gen Development

By focusing on current-gen platforms, Rockstar can fully use their capabilities and build a game that truly takes advantage of the latest technology. This future-proofs the experience and avoids potential compromises for older hardware.

In case a transition from your PS4 to a PS5 isn’t possible right now, it could be a long wait because it’s not known if and when Rockstar will bring GTA 6 to the previous-gen consoles. For now, the game has current-gen exclusivity.
