Ever since Rockstar Games dropped GTA 6 trailers, fans have been thinking about one thing: will the game support 60 FPS on consoles? While plenty of players are hoping for a Performance Mode on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, recent technical analysis suggests Rockstar may instead provide a locked 30 FPS experience. We don’t have any official performance details yet, but experts believe the studio is focusing on delivering the most detailed and immersive version of Vice City possible, even if that comes at the cost of a higher frame rate.
Based on everything shown so far, analysts believe Grand Theft Auto 6 is pushing current-generation hardware with advanced rendering techniques and a massive amount of world simulation, making 30 FPS the more realistic target.
Why Experts Believe 60 FPS Could Be Difficult
GTA 6 appears to combine ray-traced lighting, detailed reflections, dense traffic, hundreds of NPCs, realistic physics, and a living open world that reacts to the player. This requires significant processing power, especially on the CPU side. And if the game’s open world is what’s pushing the hardware the most, only lowering the graphics may not be enough to reach 60 FPS.
For that reason, analysts believe Rockstar could prioritize a stable 30 FPS instead of introducing a Performance Mode that delivers inconsistent frame rates.

Rockstar Has Yet to Reveal Performance Details
While we wait for an official announcement, one detail that has caught the community’s attention is that the official gameplay trailer was uploaded at 30 FPS. Of course, there’s still plenty of time before launch. The devs could continue optimizing the game over the coming months or reveal additional graphics options closer to release. Until the studio shares the final technical specifications, every prediction remains just a prediction.
Not everyone is disappointed by the possibility of a 30 FPS cap, though! Many fans believe that if it allows Rockstar to deliver an incredibly detailed open world with realistic NPC behavior, improved lighting, and next-level immersion, it’s an acceptable trade-off.
However, some aren’t convinced. With many current-generation games offering both Quality and Performance Modes, some players feel that a game like GTA 6 should do the same, even if it means dialing back certain visual features to achieve smoother gameplay.
