During ‘The Doom That Came To Roseway’ quest, you will come across a choice whether to free or kill Cassandra O’Malley in The Outer Worlds. She has Crane’s research and she’s not giving it back. However, she will suggest a deal; help her get out of there and she will pay you for your trouble.

Should you Kill Cassandra or Let Her Escape in The Outer Worlds?
Here’s what happens when you decide to kill Cassandra and when you choose to release her.
What Happens if you Kill Cassandra?
If you kill Cassandra, you will gain XP and recover Anton’s Data. Plus, you can loot the body to get Bit Cartridges, and some more items.
What Happens if you Let Cassandra Escape?
To free Cassandra O’Malley in The Outer Worlds, you will need a keycard to unlock the door. Then she will need you to clear her a path out of there and she’ll explain the two ways to go about it.
If you want to let her escape, choose the option of “All right. I’ll help you out.” Go towards finding the keycard, and clear the enemies you come across here. Then, go to the terminal in Chief Porter’s office to print a Security Keycard to unlock Cassandra’s door. Go back to her and open the door.
She will ask you if you’ve cleared a way out of there. To which you can reply, “I’ve unlocked your cell and put down the rapts. You’ll have to deal with the guards yourself.”
When you talk to her about her release, you will get Bit Cartridge x 1,250 and you can choose the dialogue option “Come on, Cassandra. Throw in a little something for the orphans?” and persuade her to turn over the research. You will get some more Bit Cartridges after this conversation.
So, as you can tell, if you are able to Persuade, things will work out better for you and her both. It’s best to let Cassandra escape in The Outer Worlds because you will also get the Journey Into Smoke mission from Lillian if you set her free.
