There’s nothing more frustrating than encountering lags and crashes while playing your favorite game on Xbox One, Series S/X. Most of this is caused due to the High Packet Loss error on Xbox. It can cause connectivity issues that can severely impact your gaming experience. Though sometimes, it can be a result of network overload, there are times when the problem can lie at your end too. We will show you what High Packet Loss exactly is on Xbox.

What is High Packet Loss on Xbox?

xbox high packet loss how to solve

High Packet Loss occurs when the data traveling between your Xbox and the game server fails to reach its destination. Since the data is lost along the way, it is called Packet Loss. This can lead to network instability, high ping, latency issues, frequent timeouts, and so on.
Usually, Packet Loss up to 3% is considered normal and acceptable in most cases. However, anything above 10% can lead to a host of connection issues as mentioned above.
Here is how to check for High Packet Loss on Xbox One, Series S/X:

    1. Press the Xbox button on your controller.
    2. Head to “Profile & System>Settings>Network Settings”.
    3. Then, select “Test Network Speed & Statistics”.
    4. Now, you can check your results and find out the percentage of Packet Loss you’re currently dealing with.

How to Fix High Packet Loss on Xbox

There are a host of reasons why High Packet loss can occur. Not all of them are caused due to network connection, some of it is caused by the server end too. Here are some ways to fix High Packet Loss on your Xbox devices:

    Restart your Xbox Console

It might sound simple but a restart can often fix connectivity issues. Just go ahead and perform a quick restart on your Xbox One, Series S/X console and check if you still have High Packet Loss.

    Reset your Internet Connection

Try resetting your router once to fix the High Packet Loss issue on Xbox. Unplug the router and wait for a couple of minutes before turning on the router again. Launch your game and check if you still have network issues.

    Avoid Peak Usage Times

Games like Warzone 2 and Fortnite have millions of online users playing at any given time. This number further increases during night times and weekends. If you play such games during peak times, then you will most likely face the High Packet Loss issue on Xbox. One of your options is avoiding peak times entirely. Or else, you can also try restarting the game a couple of times to fix it.

Check if the Servers are Down

Lastly, you must check if the game servers themselves are down. To do that, you will have to go to the support page of your respective game. Also, don’t forget to head to the official Twitter account of Xbox Support. They usually update Xbox One, Series S/X users if there are any server problems on their console.
