Pokemon: Fighting Type Weakness & Resistance

Here is everything you should know about the weaknesses and resistances of Fighting-type in Pokemon.

Fighting Pokemon are one of the most popular types in the series and many want to learn about their weaknesses and resistances. Knowing about your Pokemon can not only help you make the optimal team but also let you decide when to switch them in battle. And this type has a total of 3 weaknesses and resistances each. So in this guide let us check the Weakness and Resistance of the Fighting type Pokemon and also learn their Strengths.

Fighting Type Weaknesses & Resistances

fighting type pokemon weaknesses and resistances explained

The Fighting type weaknesses & resistances given below are not only applicable for the recent games but you can use them for games as old as the ones from Gen 2.

Weaknesses: Flying, Psychic, and Fairy
Resistances: Rock, Bug, and Dark

A thing that you should keep in mind here is that the above weaknesses & resistances work only for pure fighting type Pokemon. These change depending on the second type of your fighting Pokemon. For example, let us say you have a Medicham. This Pokemon is a dual-type Pokemon with the types Fighting and Psychic. So in such a case, its weaknesses change to Flying, Ghost, and Fairy. And resistances change to Fighting and Rock.

This is just one example, depending on the other type you could get many more weaknesses or even fewer weaknesses than a pure Fighting Type Pokemon.

Fighting Pokemon Strengths

While it may be weak to 3 types, Fighting type is actually strong against 5 types. These types are:

  • Super Effective (2x): Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark, and Steel. The 2x over here describes how using Fighting moves against these types will allow you to deal 2x damage to them.

There are two more effects that you should learn about the Fighting type when it comes to attacking:

  • Not very effective (1/2x): Poison, Flying, Psychic, Bug, and Fairy. This means that using fighting moves against these types will only deal half the damage when compared to attacks of some other types.
  • Doesn’t affect the Pokemon (0x): Ghost. This means that when you use a fighting move on a Ghost Pokemon it won’t affect them at all.

That covers this guide on the weakness and resistance of the Fighting Type Pokemon and their strengths. If you are interested in learning similar information on another type then check out our guide on the Bug Pokemon weaknesses.
