What causes Packet Loss, Lag, and FPS drop?

Packet loss, in simple words, is something where the data fails to reach the server from the computer. This usually happens due to an overcrowded computer network, such as gaming cafes or your home network being shared by many devices. Apart from this, opting for wifi over ethernet connection can contribute towards it. Packet loss can also happen due to your ISP, your system limitation or DOTA 2 server problems.

Now, talking about lag and FPS drop, the reasons could be related to your server location, quality of internet speed and also server-side issues. Moreover, usage of bandwidth by other software or VPN could increase latency and add lag to your game.

FPS drop could be mainly caused due to hardware limitations like outdated CPU, GPU or drivers.

That’s all you can do from your end to fix the packet loss, lag and fps drop issues in DOTA 2. In case everything fails, contact DOTA support for any help.
