With season 1, Marvel Rivals added a new Arcade mode called Doom Match which essentially works like a Death Match in the game. Here’s everything you need to know about this mode and how to trigger 5 portals while you’re at it.
Marvel Rivals Doom Match Game Mode Explained
Doom Match is a free-for-all with no teams and you can access it by clicking on the Play button from the main screen and then going to Change Mode. Among all the different modes, you’ll find Doom Match right under Conquest.
In this mode, each player is against everyone else and the goal is to have the most eliminations. 8 to 12 players will fight for dominance and you win if you’re one of the top 6 players. You can choose any character from the roster and use your learned strategies to take down every opponent you see. As usual, the healing items will keep spawning around the map to help you survive.
When you check the scoreboard using the TAB button, you will see the players in the order of score of final blows. Even if you’re not at the top of the leaderboard, your objective is to not be one of the bottom six. To win in Doom Match in Marvel Rivals, players need to focus on getting as many final hits as possible and trying not to die too much.
For this purpose, you can use the characters you are most familiar with, quickly get elims, and win games. Since there’s no teamwork involved, your best bet for getting final hits is to steal them from enemies who are already busy attacking each other. Players can also play this mode for a bunch of achievements and since it’s in Arcade mode, you can also try out new characters without worrying about team play.
How to Trigger Portals in Doom Match
Players will see multiple orange Dr. Strange portals here, but there will also be purple portals that you have to trigger for the Midnight Features event in season 1. Specifically, you need to do this for the “The Doctor’s Out of His Mind!” investigation.
If the portals you’re using aren’t counting toward the event, go ahead and use the ones you see outside on the Sanctum Sanctorum map. Approach one and use the Teleport prompt to use the purple portal. As a reward, you obtain a Bats or Bust Spray.
Respawn points are also changed every time your character dies use them to get around the map or to escape an encounter. Note that there are two abilities which won’t be usable in this game mode: Doctor Strange’s Pentagram of Farallah and Invisible Woman’s Invisible Boundary.
If you end up getting an amazing play or want to save a highlight from the match, here’s how to do so in Marvel Rivals.
