GoW Ragnarok Shield: Pick Dauntless Or Stone Wall?

Updated Date :

One of the first choices you will make in God of War Ragnarok is whether should you pick the Dauntless or Stone Wall shield. Both of these shields might give +10 defense. But they really affect your combat in different ways. And picking the wrong one can slow you down a bit and affect your play style. So in this guide check out which shield you should choose in God of War Ragnarok.

Should You Choose Dauntless or Stone Wall Shield in God of War Ragnarok?

which shield to pick first in god of war ragnarok

You should pick the Dauntless shield if you like to play offensively and Stone Wall for a more defensive play. The choice won’t matter much in the long run because you will be able to switch between them. But if you haven’t picked up a shield yet, then don’t make a hasty decision. Here is what you should know about both the Shields in the game:

Dauntless Shield

This Shield is excellent if you are familiar with the combat of this game. Or if you have played games like Sekiro or Sifu before. This shield rewards you for successful parries. And parrying is very different from blocking. So if you are confident that you can parry your enemy’s attacks well. Then this shield is for you. Each time you parry timely, just at the last second. Your next attack gets to do slightly more damage than usual. Thus encouraging players to parry more while taking fights.

Stone Wall Shield

This is a good option if this is your first God of War game or a game of this genre. Or if you are playing on a very high difficulty and are not able to parry as effectively as you could in lower difficulties. You can use this shield to block attacks, and it can easily absorb them. So if you happen to parry early, it will just absorb the damage instead of punishing you for it.

I suggest you pick one and if you are unable to use it properly then just switch it. You can do that by pressing the touchpad on your controller and then selecting your shield from the weapons tab. This way you will have tried both and can make a better decision on the shield that works the best for you and your play style.

That covers this guide on the shield that you should choose, Dauntless or Stone Wall in God of War Ragnarok. I suggest you also check our guide on how to upgrade gear to get better defense from your armor in the game. And for help on other similar topics be sure to check out our GoW Ragnarok Wiki.
