Dark Souls 2 servers are shutting down permanently for PS3 and Xbox 360 users on March 31, 2024. This was revealed via Twitter through the official account where they mentioned, “A message stating that online play is disabled will be displayed. Offline play will still be possible.” The servers will close at 5:00 PDT, 14:00 CEST, 21:00 JST.
Dark Souls 2 players on PC, PS4, and Xbox One servers need not worry, because they will not be affected by this shutdown. If you’d like to stay up-to-date with the developer’s messages regarding servers, be sure to follow them on Twitter and turn on notifications.

It’s not just FromSoftware/Bandai Namco that’s shutting down servers of popular EA games from the PS3 and Xbox 360 era. More titles like Crysis 3, Dead Space 2, Battlefield 1943, Battlefield Bad Company, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Dante’s Inferno, and some FIFA games were/will be shut down before the end of 2023. FIFA games include FIFA 18, FIFA 19, FIFA 20 and FIFA 21. Earlier this year, Half Life 2 for PS3 was taken off from its online services.
Dark Souls 2 was originally released in 2014 but has become a cult classic for soulslike fans. Its level design, exploration, weapon variety, and character builds were appreciated and its challenging fights remain memorable. Once you invest yourself in the game, its deep lore, detailed environment, mechanics and world cohesion will keep you engaged.
A few weeks after the game was released, it had already sold more than a million copies in the US and EU and after a year, the number had reached more than 2.5 million copies globally. Since DS2 was a critical and commercial success, a sequel, Dark Souls 3, was released in 2016.
Microsoft has also announced that the Xbox 360 marketplace is going to be shut down in 2024, which is almost two decades from its launch in 2005. Specifically, the Xbox 360 Store and the Xbox 360 Marketplace (marketplace.xbox.com) will be retired on July 29, 2024. If you’d like to know more about how to continue playing the games you’ve previously purchased, as well as how to continue watching your Microsoft Movies & TV content, here’s an FAQ section.
