Elden Ring: How Much Did It Cost VS How Much It Made

Published Date :

What is the cost of success? With years of critical and commercial success under their belt, FromSoftware announced their next major title Elden Ring at E3 2019 to much hype and anticipation. Now in 2023, a year since its release, we can comfortably say Elden Ring has surpassed any expectations we had. The game wholly succeeded in merging open-world exploration and freedom with the brutal combat mechanics FromSoftware has perfected over the years. But how much does it cost to make games like Elden Ring and how much has the game made since its release? Find out here.

How much does Elden Ring cost to make?

How much does elden ring cost to make

While almost all gaming studios like to keep the actual production cost of their games under wraps, industry insiders are able to come up with a figure that is usually an accurate estimate of the actual price. Using factors such as the cost of previous FromSoftware games, the number of people working on the game, and marketing costs, we can safely say Elden Ring costs around $150-200 million to make.

Now, this might sound like an insane amount of money to make a video game but this is actually the industry standard of a AAA game like Elden Ring. It takes a lot of time, effort, and manpower to make a world feel as dense and lived in as The Lands Between. Another great example is looking at the cost of other comparable titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 or God of War Ragnarok which cost even more to make.

How Much Did Elden Ring Make?

$200 million is a small price to pay for a game as fantastic as Elden Ring. The world as a whole seems to agree with FromSoftware too as the game has sold 17.5 million copies as of this month. That means Elden Ring has made about $8.9 billion since its release in 2022! Hopefully, Miyazaki and his team will use all that hard-earned cash to make Sekiro 2 as soon as humanly possible.

That’s all the information we have on the production cost of Elden Ring. Check out our Tier list of the best Sorceries to use and other Elden Ring guides here on Gamer Tweak.
