Overwatch 2 has released on PC and consoles and it’s a free game so everyone can try it out, even if you have never played OW1. There’s also an option for cross-progression for which you need to merge your accounts. This means you can switch from playing on your PC to playing on your console without losing your progress. But if you are wondering which is best for Overwatch 2 – a controller or keyboard and mouse, here are my two cents.
Overwatch 2 Controller vs Keyboard Mouse – Which is Better?
Overwatch 2 is a hero shooter game just like Apex Legends, Valorant, and Team Fortress 2. The main element of such multiplayer games is the guns, which may or may not be specific to the hero, depending on the game. There will also be abilities that if used correctly can turn the tide in your favor or against you. So, at the end of the day, it depends on what you prefer and what you are skilled at. Your aim, fast reflexes, and mastery of mouse/controller use are going to determine which platform you enjoy OW2 the most on.
Aiming works differently on both and that’s the biggest difference that can completely change your performance in the game. If you are better at landing headshots with a mouse and have better accuracy overall, Overwatch 2 can be best played on PC. On the other hand, many players are highly proficient with a controller and can move from one enemy to another with utmost accuracy with a single movement of the analog stick. There’s also a chance that you may face difficulty while playing Overwatch 2 with a controller, even if you are well-versed in the use of one.
In my experience, Overwatch 2 is best played with a keyboard and mouse instead of a controller just for better control and aim.
Does OW2 have Controller Support on PC?
If you are more comfortable with using a controller even on a PC, thankfully, that option is available because Overwatch 2 does have controller support for Xbox and PS controllers.
OW2 Aim Assist – PC vs Consoles
Now, here’s the thing. When console players play together, they get aim assist. But when console players play with the PC pool via crossplay matchmaking, the aim assist apparently gets disabled in Overwatch 2. Here’s a Reddit post by user u/KellySweetHeart which has got a lot of traction via comments. Make sure to read the discussion to know more.
Can Crossplay Friends play Competitive Mode in Overwatch 2?
The aim assist discussion between PC and console players is age-old, and in such scenarios, it can be tricky. Overwatch 2 does try to keep things fair between the constraints of both console/PC players because it does not allow crossplay in competitive mode. But if you want to play with your crossplay friends, there are other game modes available such as Quick Play, Arcade and more. I did try to join an only Xbox pool but matchmaking took a lot of time. Then I tried to join a console pool and could join fast. Matchmaking may be the fastest if you enable crossplay with PC players.
That’s everything about playing Overwatch 2 with a keyboard and mouse or controller. For more related to OW2, check out our guides.
