Coelacanth – How to Catch It & What’s the Price?

Updated Date :

If you’ve ever spent your time fishing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, you know that fish are a great way to make a profit. The game currently has 80 different species of fish which can be found in a river, pond, pier or ocean. Some are common while some are very rare. One such rare fish is the Coelacanth. Want to know how to catch a Coelacanth and how much it’s worth? Then this guide is for you!

Coelacanth – How To Catch & Price

The first thing you should know is that the Coelacanth’s shadow is pretty huge. So if you see a big fish swimming under water, there’s a chance that it’s Coelacanth. It is available all year round in both hemispheres and active all day in the sea. But there’s a catch – it will only spawn if it’s raining. Rainy days will occur randomly on your island. Make a mental note of this and head towards the sea when it starts raining in the game.

Price of Coelacanth

If you catch a Coelacanth and sell it, you will make 15,000 Bells. It is the highest amount available for selling fish as of now, so go ahead and start fishing (if it’s raining). If you don’t want to sell it though, you can donate it to Blathers’ Museum or display your find in a tank for others to see.

How to Fish in Animal Crossing New Horizons

If you are just starting out in New Horizons, here’s how you can fish. If you see a fish, walk towards the water slowly. Don’t run because the fish might swim away. Then, simply grab a fishing rod by opening your inventory and choosing it. You can also press left or right on the D-pad. Here’s a great guide to know how to get a fishing rod in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Now, aim it towards the fish. Once the fish notices the hook and bites it, press A to reel it in. Don’t wait too long because the fish will swim away if you do that.

Apart from discovering fish in the water, there’s another way to get them. And that is with fish bait! If you use a fish bait, a random fish will spawn on any surface of water, ready to be caught! The best part is that fish bait can be crafted. Read more in our guide on how to get fish bait easily
