Code Vein is the type of game that you will enjoy the most when you play it in co-op mode with your friends. You can play it with both mates, as well as strangers. In this guide, we will show you how to play this mode.
How to Join Co-op in Code Vein?
To set up a co-op game in Code Vein, all you need to do is click on the Online mode button on the title screen of the game. When doing so, you also need to remember that you will only be able to select the Online mode button if you are playing the game offline. This means you won’t be able to select the option inside the game.
Once you click on the said mode, wait for the game to load. After it loads, enter the area where you wish to play a co-op match. Here, you will need to remember that you might come across a few restrictions.
Now, either press the Escape or Start buttons. Doing so will bring up the in-game menu. Once the menu opens up, head to the Multiplayer tab. This tab will be represented by an icon that depicts two heads facing each other. It will also be the third icon in the menu.
Now, click on the Send a Distress Signal button. Doing so will allow you to ask for help. You can also press the Search for Distress signal. Clicking on this option will allow you to look for someone to help.
Now, just wait for the game to look for a connection. Once a connection is found, you will be able to play co-op in Code Vein.
How to Play with only Friends?
If you only want to play co-op with friends, you only need to make one minor change. To do so, you will first need to ensure you are online in the game. Now, you will need to enter into an area of the game that is compatible with co-op. Press the Start or Escape button. Doing so will bring up the game’s menu.
Once you are in the menu, move towards the Network Settings option by clicking on the Settings button. Now, switch Matchmaking Password on, after which you will need to enter a password.
You can now share this password with your friends. They can use this password to join your game to play co-op. Having a password will ensure that only your friends get to join it. This will prevent any strangers or unwanted people from joining your game.
What are the Co-op Restrictions?
Just like in several other games, Code Vein has some limitations when it comes to the co-op mode. As we mentioned earlier, there are two kinds of signals you can send in the co-op mode. They have a few restrictions. Let us check them out.
You cannot send distress signals under these conditions:
- When you are in the midst of a boss battle.
- If you are in the same area as the one where the boss was defeated.
- When you are playing offline.
- If you are in an area that is restricted for the multiplayer mode. For example, the Home Base.
When you read these conditions, you also need to remember that these restrictions equally appeal to times when you are searching for a distress signal too. Additionally, you will also face a few other restrictions when you search for someone to help. These restrictions apply in the following places:
- If you are located in the Depths, but the other person is in the normal area. (The same restriction applies the other way around too)
- In case you are in an area of the game that you have not unlocked yet.
Also, whenever a co-op partner joins a session, the level of the person joining will be made the same as that of the host. Additionally, the amount of Regens that will be made available to you will be reduced.
The reason these restrictions exist in the first place is to prevent players from higher levels from joining lower-ranked players in games in order to speed up the process. The aim of these limitations is to promote fair play in the game. That being said, these restrictions do not take anything away from the competitiveness of the co-op mode.
