Pokemon GO To Feature 2 New Region Specific Ultra Beasts

Blacephalon and Stakataka are the new Ultra Beasts to join Pokemon GO. However, there is a catch, and not everyone can catch them both.

The Sun and Moon games which were set in the Alola region introduced the mainline series to Ultra Beasts. Also referred to as UBs, these are special extradimensional Pokemon that have gone through the Ultra Space. What makes the May 2024 update interesting, is Pokemon GO releasing the previously unavailable Ultra Beasts Blacephalon and Stakataka to the game. The problem is they are region-locked.

From May 23, 2024, at 10:00 AM to June 1, 2024, at 10:00 AM, you will be able to take part in the Blacephalon 5-Star raids if you live in the Western Hemisphere. At the same time, those living in the Eastern Hemisphere can participate in the Stakataka 5-Star raids. Aside from that they will also be available on May 29, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time in the raid hours.

Which Ultra Beast Will You Get?

Blacephalon is available in the Western Hemisphere, so you may get its raids if you live in these areas:

  • Americas (excluding some of the Aleutian Islands)
  • The westernmost portion of Europe
  • The westernmost portion of Africa

Stakataka is for the Eastern Hemisphere, as such its raids should be available to more than 82% of the world’s population. Some of the countries where this Pokemon should appear includes:

  • Europe
    • United Kingdom
    • Germany
    • France
    • Spain
    • Netherlands
    • Belgium
  • Asia
    • India
    • Japan
    • South & North Korea
    • Hong Kong
    • Singapore
    • China
  • Africa
    • Egypt
    • Nigeria
    • Sudan
    • Kenya
    • Congo

This makes Blacephalon rarer than Stakataka. But since region-locked Pokemon aren’t exactly something new, people are still focused on the game not letting you revert to your old Avatars. If you check the comments on the original post a lot of the comments still aren’t happy with Niantic not talking about any plans on bringing back old Avatars.
