While Trading has been in the game since the beginning, Bartering is a new mechanic added in Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred expansion and it isn’t based on exchange of Gold. You need Pale Marks for this system and when you have enough, you talk to the Bartering vendor and you can get access to special Equipment, Materials, and more. Here’s how you can get started with this.

How to Start Bartering in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred
As mentioned before, you require a unique currency (silver coins) called Pale Marks to trade with a special group – The Pale Hand Mercenaries.
- Unlock Mercenaries: Progress through the main campaign to gain access to The Den, your mercenary hub. Here’s the location on the map.
- Build Rapport: Each mercenary has a Rapport level. Increase it by adventuring with them to unlock Pale Marks.
- Reach Rapport Level 5: This is the key! Once any mercenary reaches Rapport Level 5, a new NPC named Fayira appears in The Den.
- Trade with Fayira: Spend your Pale Marks on various goodies! This includes gear caches, legendary items, and more.
Make sure you level up your Mercenaries and your Rapport with them even more for better quality of items available for trade. There are two bartering upgrades for every Mercenary and they can be unlocked at Rapport levels 5 and 8.
There’s also a rerolling system where you can get a free reroll a day for the items in Fayira’s shop. But the second reroll onwards, you will have to pay 50 Pale Marks each.
To ensure that your Mercenary levels up faster, you need to assign them as your Hired Mercenary. You can also select another Merc as your Reinforcement Mercenary, but this one will get 50% less Rapport while a Hired Merc is active.
With this done, play campaign quests, Specialization quests, Kurast Undercity dungeons, and Helltides, which are the best ways to collect more Rapport to help Bartering in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred.
