With Season 4 of Overwatch 2 set to begin in April, fans can’t wait to see all the new changes and improvements to the beloved online multiplayer. Changes to the map pool and a new support hero are some of the major highlights to look out for. But Bizzard is looking to give the Competitive game modes a fresh update too. An Average rank system will now be used. Let’s look at what is Average Team Rank and how to check it in Overwatch 2.
What is Average Team Rank in Overwatch 2?
Online matchmaking is never an exact science. Developers have to use various different metrics to try and group players with the same skill level. It’s never fun to play against opponents who are leagues above or below you in terms of skill. Overwatch 1 tackled this with their SR number system. Since players of varying ranks can team up for a competitive match, it can be difficult to gauge the true skill level of the team. The average SR indicator gives the team an average rank based on each individual’s rank.
This feature is going to get a revamp in Overwatch 2 in the form of Average Team Rank. This is great news for the player base, who have been asking for clarity over ranks in Competitive mode. Currently, there isn’t any footage or news on what this will look like in the game, guess will have to wait for the new Season to start. Average Team Rank will most likely stick to the same way Average SR was displayed in Overwatch 2. Players will be able to view the Average Team Rank for the teams during the loading screen before the match starts.
