Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has a variety of accessibility options or difficulty settings that you can use to tweak your experience. You can customize how you want your gameplay to be based to exploration, stealth and combat. If you want to know how to change difficulty level in AC Valhalla at any time in the game, read this guide till the end. Plus, know our recommendation on which one you should pick.

How to Change Difficulty Settings in AC Valhalla?

You can change your difficulty settings from the Options Menu > Gameplay at any point in the game. In the Gameplay tab, scroll down until you see the sections of Combat, Stealth and Exploration. Over there, you can customize how tough or easy you want those parts of the gameplay to be. Changing these settings to higher difficulty will ensure that your enemy perception/awareness is high (Stealth) and they fight aggressively like the powerful foes they are (Combat) . Your opponents won’t lose health very fast and you will also take more damage on a higher level. This will make the process of defeating them much harder. Overall, it makes things more challenging for the player.

In terms of Exploration – on lower difficulty, you will get feedback on world map opportunities as well as receive info on the compass which will make navigation easier. Now, let’s look at the various difficulty levels in AC Valhalla for each of these categories.

    Exploration Difficulty Settings

    • Explorer (Default)
    • Adventurer
    • Pathfinder

Pathfinder makes things difficult to spot and the HUD will be basic whereas Adventurer and Explorer will help you out more and you can reach items of interest easily. If you want to truly feel like a Viking in the vast open world, Pathfinder should be your choice.

    Combat Difficulty Settings

    • Skald (Easy)
    • Vikingr (Default)
    • Berserkr (Hard)
    • Drengr (Very Hard)

    Stealth Difficulty Settings

    • Apprentice (Easy)
    • Assassin (Default)
    • Master Assassin (Hard)

The settings are marked as easy, hard and very hard in brackets and you can take a decision according to that. In the Gameplay section, you can also tweak some more settings as per your preference. There’s Guaranteed Assassination, Aim Assist, Icon Distance and Closest Opportunity that you can turn off or on. With Guaranteed Assassination on, you can kill enemies in one shot. If you turn it off, you can kill smaller enemies in one shot but the stronger enemies will need more effort to kill.

Which Difficulty Level Should You Choose?

Well, it depends on the type of player you are and how acquainted you are with this series. If you are trying out this genre or a game from the Assassin’s Creed series for the first time – choose the easy settings for your first playthrough. On the other hand, if you are a veteran player of this franchise and prefer a good challenge, go with the highest difficulty settings in AC Valhalla. For most players, the default settings should work best.

In case you feel that you are better at Combat but not so much in Stealth, change the settings accordingly. Lastly, while playing the game if you feel like you do not like the difficulty, change it up from the Options Menu right away.

This was all about how to change difficulty settings in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. All of these accessibility options will give you the desired experience from the game. In case you get heavily injured in higher combat difficulty levels, here’s how to heal yourself fast. Also, you will need a horse to navigate around the open world but can your horse swim?
