Metroid fans recently got a nice treat from Nintendo with the release of the Prime Remastered. And this has long-time Zelda fans’ hopes up for Wind Waker for Switch. But the console has been around since 2017, and we didn’t get a remake all this time. So here is what you should know about the rumors for The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker coming to Nintendo Switch and its release date.
When is Zelda Wind Waker Coming to Switch?
While there is no official release date for Zelda Wind Waker for the Nintendo Switch, we can expect it to release sometime late during this year or in 2024. There are a couple of reasons for this speculation.
To begin with, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is almost upon us with its release on 5th May 2023. So Nintendo most likely won’t push another Zelda game at the same time. This is because that would create a competition internally between the two games.
Secondly, Jeff Grubb from Giant Bomb was correct about the Metroid Prime Remaster release. He said the game was about to release during the Holidays in 2022. And even though we didn’t get it then, Metroid Prime Remastered is available now. And during the time he mentioned Metroid Prime Remaster, he also said we can expect ports of Wind Waker & Twilight Princess. So it is safe to assume that a Wind Waker HD port can make its way to Switch. Not to forget we already have Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess for Wii U. So if Nintendo decides to port them for Switch, the game can release as a surprise anytime.
Lastly, based on the latest Nintendo Direct, we have only seen their line-up of games till Tears of the Kingdom. So there is room for many games to fill up the rest of the year. Thus there is a good chance we might see a Wind Waker remake or Twilight Princess remake for Switch. But considering Nintendo is bringing its Gameboy and Gameboy Advance games to its Online expansion, the remake of Wind Waker can be pushed to 2024 or even 2025. This is because, with the Online Expansion, you will get to play Zelda Link’s Awakening DX and Zelda Minish Cap. And The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages & Oracle of Seasons will also be released in the future.
