Baldur’s Gate 3 Saves Get Deleted Bug On Xbox

Published Date :

Baldur’s Gate 3, the winner of Game of the Year 2023, has finally released on Xbox Series X|S on December 7. While that is good news, what isn’t is the save file getting deleted bug. That’s right several players have reported an issue of their save games disappearing.

This is bad because you lose out on hours of your progress only to start over again. Luckily, the developers are working on a fix with Microsoft. So here is their update on the matter, and a few things you can do to prevent your saves from getting corrupted if you already have started playing the game.

What is the Current Status of Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Save Bug?

Michael Douse, the Director of Publishing at Larian Studios updated that they are working on a second fix that should hopefully solve this problem. You can check out his tweet here. This is what he had to say:

“My team are very rightfully asleep but just to update you on the Xbox saves issue, we’re working with Microsoft on a second fix that should hopefully solve it. It’s looking optimistic. Not as simple as just patching the game itself, so kudos to the green team for being so on top.”

He also said that this shouldn’t be an issue on the retail versions of Xbox as long as its firmware is updated to the latest version. You can check out this in the follow-up tweet here.

So while you wait for an update here are some recommended ways you can prevent this bug from happening:

How to Avoid Getting BG3 Xbox Save Bug

  • Update your Xbox: In case there is a firmware update available, here is how you can install it:
    • Press the Xbox button on your controller.
    • Select Profile & system and go to Settings.
    • Here, go to System and then Updates.
    • If there is an update available, download and install it.
  • Close your Game after every play session: Till an update is out it is also suggested you save your game and close it instead of minimizing.
    • Close the game and go back to the home screen.
    • Select BG3 and press the menu button on your controller.
    • Finally, click the Quit option.
    • The game will now close.

That’s everything you should know about the BG3 save file issues for Xbox. While you wait for the game to work normally, I suggest you check out our Baldur’s Gate 3 section for useful guides or tips & tricks for this game!
