Villagers in Minecraft are capable of doing almost anything. But some things can be quite difficult for these NPCs. If you’re thinking about expanding your village in Minecraft or need help to keep your village safe from zombies then knowing what they can and cannot do is important. In this guide, we will let you know whether or not villagers can climb ladders in Minecraft.
Can Minecraft Villagers Climb Ladders?
Well, villagers in Minecraft actually can climb ladders. However, this is usually not possible for them to do as their AI doesn’t allow them to choose these paths. That is unless push comes to shove and they are forced to climb a ladder out of necessity.
Times when they will climb ladders is when the following happens:
- If villagers get pushed into the block by other mobs. When pushed into small blocks by mobs, villagers tend to climb ladders that are nearby.
- If they want to go to bed. When villagers want to go to bed, they are capable of climbing up ladders. However, this is only if the bed is upstairs.
Can Villagers Climb Down Ladders?
Once the villager reaches the top of wherever they need to go, they will not climb back down. If you want your villager to go back down but don’t know how, you can always push them down to get your way. Once they are on the ladder, they will automatically descend.
How to Stop Villagers from Getting Stuck?
You can prevent villagers from getting stuck by either installing a trap door on the top end of the ladder or by breaking the first ladder block on the ground to keep them from getting stuck at ground level.
