Stranded Deep is one of the most realistic survival games ever made. Being a survivor stuck between islands, embarking on voyages looking for resources from other islands and salvages is what keeps you going. However, Stranded Deep features the toughest map ever displayed in the genre. There are no icons or pathways to help you find your destination. Instead, all you got is a Compass and a Cartographer to figure out the right path. Well, don’t worry, as we have scoured the internet and come up with some important information. Read this guide till the end to learn everything about the Map (Cartographer + Compass) in Stranded Deep for consoles.
Stranded Deep Cartographer – Map Explained
Above is the Cartographer or Map, which explains the position of your in-game character, islands nearby, and bosses. As you can see there is a 5×5 grid displayed on the map above to portray the positions. Here is a quick Stranded Deep Map Legend for your reference:
- The Normal Grids are islands nearby.
- The Red Grids with Skulls is a boss’s location.
- The Red Grid is your location.
Tips & Tricks to Use Map (Cartographer) in Stranded Deep
When you observe the Cartographer carefully, you can see that the north direction is shown on the top right instead of the top middle. You can use this Map Tracker created by Reddit user, u/ekauq2000. Using this map tracker, you can create a copy of your Stranded Deep Cartographer and rotate it for a better understanding. Another advantage of this Map Tracker is that you won’t have to pause your game on repeat and identify your location.
Further, I would suggest that trust your guts and always try to implement some common knowledge while using the Cartographer and Compass. Now, you know that the Sun rises in the east and it sets in the west. Moreover, if you observe carefully, you will notice that the flow of water currents is from north to south. All of these indicators does help you understand the map in Stranded Deep effectively. Look at the image below for a better explanation:
If you are facing east, then you will notice that the water current is flowing from your left to right. If you want to reach the boss in the final grid, you will know that you have to move in the southeast direction. Similarly, if you are facing on the west, the water will flow from your right to left. Hence, you will head in the southwest direction to reach the boss in the first column. Eventually, such indicators will help you to trust your guts and imply your geographical knowledge in the game.
The way to understand the Cartographer can be complex, but thanks to Granddaddy Gamer (YouTube) who made it a lot easier. 0
